Operational Office of Vasto

The Punta Penna port in Vasto (Chieti) is the operational headquarters of Agenzia Marittima Vastese, a company of the Frittelli Maritime Groupwhich, through its subsidiary V.I.P. Srl, operates with experience and competence as Port Company, ship's agent, and customs shipping agency.

The port of Vasto has approximately 500 linear metres of berthing space for merchant traffic, supported by 40,000 sqm of storage areas and depots. In recent years, the Vasto port experienced a notable increase in traffic, handling an annual average of approx. 550,000 tonnes of goods. This increase is the result of positive factors, including:

  • The presence of a growing industrial area in the immediate vicinities;
  • The good level of industrialization of its catchment area in the province of Chieti and nearby Termoli;
  • Its central position for trade in the Adriatic sea, thanks also to its direct connection to the A14 motorway;
  • The beginning of scheduled container ship services.

The organizational structure of VIP Port Company includes offices and warehousing in the port area, three 100, 65, and 40 tonnes mobile cranes, 7 forklifts, 1 reachstacker, 2 loaders and 20 staff, all solely dedicated to cargo handling.
Last year VIP has loaded/unloaded 550,000 tonnes of cargo, that is the totality of the traffic through the port of Vasto.

Agenzia Marittima Vastese has its offices near the port, adjacent to the Vasto Customs offices, next to the industrial area, where are located the warehouses and depot areas for domestic and foreign goods, with 3,500 sqm. of covered areas and about 10,000 sqm. of uncovered areas, protected by security CC cameras. Most of the activity is related to handling and storage of steel products, timber, gypsum, sand, salt, cellulose and other bulk products (fertilizers, products for the ceramics industry, etc.).

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

The Regional Reference Framework attributes to the port of Vasto prevailing functions of industrial and commercial port. It is identified as the most appropriate and principal location for bulk goods handling. The Port Master Plan and the Regional Transport Plan provide for its specialization by upgrading its operational wharfs and expanding its road and rail inland connections.
